EDUCATION: Dr. Bunkis graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1974. This was followed by a five year general surgery residency at Columbia University and board certification in general surgery, and a two year plastic surgery residency at Harvard University. Dr. Bunkis is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

PRINCIPAL ACADEMIC POSITIONS HELD: Dr. Bunkis served as a Clinical Instructor in Surgery at Harvard University from 1979-81 and subsequently as Assistant Professor in Surgery, at the University of California, San Francisco. Currently on faculty of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Private aesthetic practice since 1983.

ANCILLARY POSITIONS HELD CONCURRENTLY: Dr. Bunkis has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the San Francisco General Hospital (UCSF) and Medical Director of the Blackhawk Surgery Center. He has served on the Board of Directors of Blackhawk Surgery Center, Inc., United Bridges, Inc., the Tassajara Valley Little League, ARPSMA, Inc., the Hospital de la Familia Foundation, OnlySports.com Inc, Nor Cal Baseball, Inc., Burning Galileo Films, Margarita’s Cocina Mexicana, Inc., Orange County Plastic Surgery, Inc. and MD Performance, Inc. As Honorary Consul for the Republic of Latvia, he is a member of the Los Angeles Diplomatic Corps.

MEMBERSHIPS IN PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: Dr. Bunkis is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Canadian Society for Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery, Latvian Medical and Dental Association, Plastic Surgery Research Council and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons

SPECIAL AWARDS: Dr. Bunkis has received Honorary memberships, Associatio Medicorum Bohemoslovacorum J.E. Purkyne and the Societas Bohemoslovaca Chirurgiae Plasticae, in Prague. Dr. Bunkis has operated on indigent children in Central America for years and in recognition of his charitable efforts, was knighted by the Cavalieri di San Marco (Knights of San Marco), Venice, received the Angel Wings Award, Angel Wings Foundation and the Man of Character Award, Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. A feature film he helped produce, “F-Stops”, won the Silver Medal, Houston Film Festival, Houston TX and was invited to the Cannes Festival.

POSTGRADUATE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES ATTENDED: Dr. Bunkis has attended sufficient continuing education courses to maintain certification. In addition, he has achieved PADI Advanced Diver Certification, is an instrument-rated, commercial jet pilot and an avid custom Harley, motorcycle enthusiast (Hamsters USA). Dr. Bunkis is a volunteer deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

INVITED LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS: Dr. Bunkis has given hundreds of lectures and presentations at meetings locally and around the globe

PUBLICATONS: Dr. Bunkis has published more than 40 scientific publications, abstracts and book reviews, and 17 book chapters in plastic surgery text books.

Lolita is one of the founders of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, a member of the Television Academy, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Society of Composers and Lyricists, and Women in Film. On May 9th, 2018 Lolita was honored with the BMI Champion Award.
