George Straubs recently retired after almost 40 years of experience in marketing and selling UK military products to the U.S. Department of Defense. His product specialties were pneumatic applications for aircraft weapon systems, electronics applications for military vehicle and soldier systems, and power applications for small tactical power systems and unmanned systems.
George has in-depth knowledge about the DoD Foreign Comparative Technology Program which has the specific purpose of evaluating foreign products that may meet DoD operational requirements.
Prior to moving from the UK to the USA in 1986, George worked as an aerospace engineer specializing in the design of propellers and high-speed turbines, and earlier as a high school Physics teacher.
Chiaki Bems brings the humanities perspectives and experience in higher education to the LACC community. With a Ph.D. in English from SUNY Buffalo on a Fulbright Scholarship, she has taught and co-taught U.S. History, AI Ethics, The Firm, and Organizational Behavior at RTU/Riga Business School in Latvia for nearly ten years. Her students included business, marketing, and computer science majors. Her publication includes articles on science education and AI ethics, American modernist poetry, and a comparative study of Aspazija and Japanese women poets and artists.
In LACC’s DC Chapter, she serves as the International Education Director. She is interested in creating opportunities for the business community to learn, connect, and grow together.
